Families across the North Charleston area are grieving the tragic loss of three people killed in vehicle collisions on February 23.

The first fatal incident occurred around 10 p.m. when a motorcycle drove off the roadway on Rivers Avenue near Otranto Road, according to North Charleston Police Department spokesperson Harvey Jacobs.

The Post and Courier reported that the motorcyclist hit the curb and then ran into a pole and a fence before being ejected from the vehicle. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The next collision occurred just three hours later, around 1 a.m. Local officers responded to the single-vehicle accident near Altamaha Drive on Netherby Lane.

After an initial investigation, Jacobs of the NCPD revealed that the vehicle left the road and collided with a tree, according to WCBD-TV Charleston reports. Two people were trapped inside the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

On February 25, Live 5 News WCSC reported that Dorchester County Coroner Paul Brothers identified the victims of the single-vehicle crash as Alan Aguilar, 18, of Hanahan, and Katherine Garcia-Nativi, 20, of North Charleston. The NCPD continues to investigate both collisions.

What to Know About Single-Vehicle Accidents

Even a minor auto accident can have a big impact, potentially changing your life in a matter of moments. Many accident victims deal with the effects of their collision long after the wreck is cleared, with financial setbacks, physical pain, and an emotional toll left behind.

But not every car accident involves a collision with another driver. Single-vehicle can take many forms – resulting from distracted driving, stationary object or animal collisions, and more.

No matter the cause of a single-vehicle crash, many drivers’ immediate reaction is to drive away. But leaving the scene is strongly discouraged by Charleston personal injury lawyers. Our team recommends waiting until law enforcement arrives to complete an official report, even if no one was injured and no damage was sustained. Keep in mind that leaving before the police arrive under any circumstances is still considered fleeing the scene – which is a misdemeanor.

What You Should Do After a Single-Vehicle Accident

While you may assume that an accident involving only one vehicle would be simple to resolve, this is not always the case. You may still encounter challenges in dealing with the insurance company and accident-related injuries, making it incredibly important to have a trusted car accident lawyer near you on your side. That’s where Hoffman Law Firm comes in!

Preparing an Insurance Claim

An insurance claim is a formal request to your insurance company to cover vehicle damages. For instance, your policy may cover the cost of repairs in certain incidents, like an animal collision. Plus, if you were injured in your accident, this information will need to be included as well. To ensure the best results, let your trusted attorney at Hoffman Law Firm handle your claim on your behalf.

Preparing a Case with Your Charleston Car Accident Lawyer

Filing a claim with your insurance company does not automatically mean you will get the money requested, though. Some claims are denied altogether.

It’s important to already have one of our dedicated car accident attorneys on your side. We’ll ensure evidence of your property damage and injuries is sufficient, and then we’ll get right to work securing the compensation you deserve for vehicle repairs, medical bills, hospital stays, as well as pain and suffering, and more.
