Similac Recall | Abbott 2 fl oz Ready-to-Feed Liquid Recall

Why is Similac being recalled?

Abbott, a popular baby formula manufacturer, is now recalling some 2-ounce bottles of liquid Similac Ready-to-Feed baby formula. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the baby formula recall has been issued due to improperly sealed caps that could lead to product spoilage.

What brands are included in this recall?

  • Similac Pro-Total Comfort
  • Similac 360 Total Care
  • Similac 360 Total Care Sensitive
  • Similac Special Care 24
  • Similac Stage 1
  • Similac NeoSure

Who is at risk in using this recalled product?

Formula-fed infants are at risk, particularly those who have consumed this product.

What are the symptoms?

Contact your child’s pediatrician immediately if your infant experiences diarrhea or vomiting after consuming the recalled baby formula.

Are all baby formulas in the recall?

All the products recalled were manufactured at Abbott’s Columbus, Ohio manufacturing plant. No other powdered or liquid formula brands were included in the recall.

When was the recall issued?

According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the baby formula recall was issued in October of 2022.

Why is it considered dangerous?

Because only a very small portion of formula bottles (less than 1%) were improperly sealed, the recall is not expected to keep formula off store shelves nationwide. If a spoiled product is consumed, diarrhea and vomiting may occur.

Note: This recall is separate from the one initiated early in 2022, involving the tragic deaths of two infants.

I threw out my product months ago, how do I know if it was part of this recall?

If you have already discarded the product, there is no way to determine whether it was included in the recall. The lot number is required to confirm this. But if you are concerned about your infant’s health, be sure to consult their pediatrician.
