About Us
Discount Bankruptcy Services® was developed in 2009 by Attorney Mel Hoffman, owner of Hoffman Law Firm, SC, in La Crosse, Wisconsin, in response to the deepening recession and the growing need for simple bankruptcy services at an affordable price. In his over 30 years of bankruptcy practice, he has assisted hundreds of individuals find relief from burdensome debts and obligations, along with representing small and medium-sized businesses in providing advice and services in a wide variety of bankruptcy and insolvency matters. In addition to running his own law firm since 1979, from 1987 through 2011, Attorney Hoffman was a member of the Panel Bankruptcy Trustees for the Western District of Wisconsin, who administer Chapter 7 cases for the Office of the U.S. Trustee, an arm of the Justice Department.
At the end of 2011, Attorney Hoffman merged his firm with the Law Office of Heidi M. Eglash, LLC, also of La Crosse, and together, they reorganized Discount Bankruptcy Services® of La Crosse, LLC, as a full-service bankruptcy law firm specializing in providing simple chapter 7 bankruptcy services at an affordable cost. Attorney Hoffman is now "of counsel" with Heidi's firm, and consults on more complicated matters of bankruptcy, insolvency and creditors' rights.
Heidi Eglash established her independent law office after more than a decade of corporate and small-firm practice in a wide variety of areas. A Milwaukee native and first-generation American, Heidi earned degrees in International Business and German from St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin, and in Law from Tulane Law School in New Orleans, Louisiana. She has traveled extensively through student exchange programs and personal trips to visit friends and family in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, among other places. Before making her home in La Crosse in 1999, she graduated from the Future Milwaukee community leadership program, and she utilizes this background in her involvement in various community organizations and initiatives in La Crosse and southwestern Wisconsin.
Discount Bankruptcy Services® is not designed for more complicated bankruptcy cases, and once we have established your criteria from your Initial Input Form, we will be able to advise you whether, in our opinion, your case can be handled effectively under the flat-fees charged by Discount Bankruptcy Services®, of La Crosse, LLC. If we believe your case is more complicated than the run-of-the-mill bankruptcy case, we will generally propose that you consider retaining the services of the Law Office of Heidi M. Eglash, LLC, to represent you in the matter.
